Japanese Whisky is a refined and meticulously crafted category of whisky that draws heavily from Scottish Whisky traditions, yet has developed its own distinctive identity through precision, balance, and elegance. Typically made from malted barley and aged in various oak barrels—including American oak, sherry casks, and Japanese mizunara oak—Japanese Whiskies are known for their delicate flavours, smooth texture, and subtle complexity.
Common tasting notes include light smoke, honey, orchard fruits, spice, and floral undertones. The category includes both single malts and blended whiskies, often produced with an emphasis on harmony and craftsmanship. Pioneered by distilleries like Suntory and Nikka, Japanese Whisky has gained international acclaim for its artistry and balance, making it a favourite among connoisseurs and a standout in the global whisky scene.
This is a signature grain whisky which was released in 2012. Predominantly made from corn, whisky distilled in a Coffey still is matured in old casks such as re-filled, remade and re-charred casks originally made from American oak to deliver the sweet and mellow flavors of Coffey distillates.
The originality of this 100% malt expression lies in its unique distillation method. Malted barley is distilled in a "Coffey still", a traditional continous still which is normally used to produce grain whisky.
Nikka has always been at the crossroads of cultures, between the East and the West, Nature and Human, Tradition and Innovation. Each day is a new journey which continuously learn from previous ones. Nikka Days, the latest creation of the brand, is a shining example of this state of mind. A subtle blend of grain and malt whiskies. Creamy and smooth, fruity and floral, this whisky will please amateurs and connoisseurs.
Matured malt whisky and grain whisky are blended and then re-caked to create a rich harmony of distinctly different whiskies. This whisky possesses a distinctive personality characterised by solidity, depth of taste and a richly expanding aroma.
Yoichi Single Malt is a range of single malt expressions from the Yoichi Distillery, Nikka's first distillery built in 1934. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the town of Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whisky-making.
Toki means time in Japanese. A vivid blend of whiskies from Suntory's Hakushu, Yamazaki, and Chita distilleries, Suntory Whisky Toki™ features the quintessential characteristics of a Suntory Whisky blend: exquisite balance, harmony, and oneness. At the same time, its unique pairing of Hakushu® American white oak cask malt whisky with Chita heavy-type grain whisky overturns the traditional hierarchy between malt and grain.
Yamazaki® 12 Year Old has a characteristically refined Japanese taste and is distinguished by an aroma of ripened fruit and a sweet vanilla fragrance thanks to malt whiskies matured in white oak casks.
