Gin is a distilled alcoholic beverage characterised by its predominant flavour of juniper berries. Its origins can be traced back to the Netherlands in the 17th century, where it was known as "genever" and used for medicinal purposes. There are three main styles of Gin; Dry London, Plymouth or Genever (Dutch) and today it is produced around the world, including Australia.
The taste of gin varies widely depending on the botanicals used during distillation, the more botanicals, the more complex the Gin. These can include coriander, citrus peel, angelica root, and other spices. This results in a range of flavour profiles, from dry and herbal to fruity and floral.
