Elderton Estate

Elderton Estate traces its roots back to 1894 when German settlers first planted vineyards along the North Para River in Nuriootpa. The estate was later named and developed by Samuel Elderton Tolleys in 1916. By the late 1970s, the vineyards had fallen into disuse—until 1979, when Neil and Lorraine Ashmead acquired the derelict property.

In 1982, Elderton released its first vintage and rapidly gained acclaim. Today, the estate is run by the second generation—brothers Cameron and Allister Ashmead—who have expanded operations to include key vineyards across Barossa subregions: Craneford in Eden Valley, Greenock, and Mengler Hill, affirming their commitment to terroir-driven, sustainable winemaking.
